Lenton Brae Wilyabrup semillon 2025
- 95 points
- Cellar 10 years
- White
- Margaret River
- Semillon
I bang on about semillon all the time, and yet here’s the reason. It’s wines like this. This is a cracking good example of what Margaret River can produce with this variety, an underrated variety these days. It’s had about 25% new French oak, and then spent eight months on lees, so it’s picked up a complexity and textural element that adds so much to its expression. It retains the sort of lemony nutty notes on the nose, which is semillon, but then that lees influence brings in a richness and layered complexity that carries through to a fine, long, focused finish. Has a lovely, slightly waxy feel. And these wines can handle some cellaring.
