Houghton EV37 Old Vine chenin blanc 2025

If you think you’ve seen chenin blanc, then think again. This is quite a different spin on a variety that has been so important to West Australian wines, and obviously to Houghton Winery in particular. Hence the name EV37, which is a reference to the first Houghton white burgundy that was released and made by Jack Mann in 1937. This one is just the second release, and the difference is that it’s been fermented and matured in a new foudre. The distinctive difference between this and that first ’23 release is less obvious oak on the nose and palate. It’s integrated beautifully, with a nice lemony, citrusy, creamy character. Has a lovely mouthfeel and texture, with that fine, precise acidity of the variety carrying it through to a very long finish
