This is a variety just starting to make an impact. It's from the Riversdale vineyard and was fermented in used oak. It has a pale copper-like colour. The nose is spicy with an apple and pear combo. On the palate you get a fine leaner profile but one revealing good intensity on its light frame. Nice aperitif wine.

Cherubino Pedestal chardonnay 2025
Chardonnay
This really is a super value-for-money chardonnay from a season that’s turned out pretty well for this variety. It was fermented and matured in French oak for about eight months and certainly picked up some lovely characters. On the nose, there’s a light fig and lemon combination, with a touch of quince paste, and then a distinctly mineral, savoury palate...

Cherubino Pemberton Chardonnay 2022
Chardonnay
Runner-up White Wine of the Year 2024 A stunner from Cherubino capturing the essence of Pemberton. It comes from the excellent Channybearup vineyard. Cherubino Pemberton Chardonnay 2023
Chardonnay
Okay, I’ve tasted a few of these and I reckon this is the best. Great vintage, yes, but then the subtle winemaking has brought it to a new dimension. While bunch pressing and naturally fermented in new and used puncheons, which just takes the edge off the oak. The power of the Gingin clone is evident immediately. Lemon, quince and...

Cherubino Pemberton sauvignon blanc 2024 ($39) Cherubino sources this savvy from the excellent Channybearup Vineyard in Pemberton. It’s a lightly framed wine but has a delightful crunchy vibrancy with the influence of a small amount of barrel fermentation and three months in oak bringing it to life. I’m not sure how Cherubino has made a wine of this quality in such a hot year. But here you go. Nutty stone fruit aromas and then a palate where the balance between the oak and fruit nails it. Textured and rich with...

I've been a bit of a fan of this wine since I first saw it a few years ago. It's made in the fumé style, which means after natural fermentation it was matured in French oak, in this case for 4 months, but at the same time it retains its fine linear freshness with a minerally citrus note on the...

Cherubino The Yard Pinot Gris 2022

This is pinot gris with a little difference. It's been partially fermented in oak so you get that textural richness to augment the steelier lean varietal characters of the pinot gris. Light and fine with an apple crumble and cut pear combo doing their thing.

Cherubino The Yard Riversdale Shiraz 2021
Shiraz
Lots to chew on here. Immediately a mix of ironstone and dark plummy blackberry fruit emerges. The combination of the sweet fruit and a little spicy black pepper creates such a neatly aligned palate. In this case the Waldron, 470 and 174 clones are making an impact. Smooth and velvety.

Crunchy apple and pear characters burst from the glass. This is savvy with a little extra, which comes from the partial barrel fermentation. Gee, it makes quite a difference, transforming that bright and fresh fruit savvy into a wine of great sophistication, but still a lot of fun.

Sourced from Pemberton and shows that slightly lighter and more pristine character. Yet another marvellous grenache from Frankland River. The energy and vitality evident immediately is remarkable. Cherubino Uovo Riesling 2022
Riesling
I do like this riesling. Cherubino makes it in a clay cement egg which creates a vortex to work the lees into the palate. Retains it pristine brightness but with the extra dimension of a textural palate. The mineral light citrus edge remains a fundamental part.

Churchview Limited Release Vintage Brut 2022
Chenin Blanc
A wine which demonstrates the versatility of chenin, a variety which is increasingly being seen in sparkling wines these days. The colour is quite golden, but the aroma is fresh and lively with a roasted nut and butterscotch infusion into the light tropical notes. A little biscuit crumble emerges with a sliced apple and cinnamon combination.
This is a different take on chenin blanc showing another way this excellent variety can be expressed. It was whole bunch pressed to French oak where it was wild fermented with regular lees stirring. It’s all designed to develop complexity and bring out a rich expression of chenin. Lemon zest and stone fruit with a sprinkle of spices. Like this...
Another expression of chenin blanc showing just how versatile this variety is across regions. This one has been wild fermented in French oak and then left a further 10 months on lees with regular stirring to build texture and complexity. Yet it’s not overdone. The vibrant fruit intensity is retained, with typical tropical lemony zest still evident, but with added...
The excellent quality of chenin has been maximised with this specific take on the variety. Wild fermentation in French oak, 10 months on lees and regular stirring have built in complexity, texture and added richness. The variety has excellent natural acidity, and that gives it the fine backbone on which the richer, plush stone fruit characters are based. A little...
This is such a versatile grape that Churchview has been working with for some time now. You can make it lean and mean if you like, but in this case, they've built some structure, texture and richness into the wine to great effect. Whole-bunch pressing into a mix of stainless steel and older puncheons has given it some structural integrity....
