Peccavi The Estate Merlot 2021

Peccavi has made a bit of a thing with Merlot over the years, and this is another exceptional wine showing what can be achieved with this variety. It was all hand-picked and then hand-sorted, with fermentation involving hand plunging and regular pump-overs. It was macerated for an extended period and then spent two years in French oak. So, plenty has gone into the creation of this wine, and it's really come up trumps. Dark, vibrant, chewy fruits, blackberry, dark plum, fruitcake: it's all in there. The oak has a slightly chalky character, which offsets it beautifully but is certainly not overdone. This is as good a Merlot as has come out of Margaret River.
