Cape Mentelle Heritage cabernet sauvignon 2023

Cabernet sauvignon was the wine that put Cape Mentelle on the map and went a long way towards cementing Margaret River in the global wine psyche. This is clearly one of the finest examples produced since those early wines of the late 1970s. It captures the variety beautifully, with aromas of cedary blackcurrant, light bay leaf, and subtle olive tapenade. The palate is detailed and balanced, with an intricate weave of fine chalky tannins, super-fine oak, and beautiful fruit. Poised and cabernet in every sense of the word. It will handle extended cellaring, but it is already superb drinking.
