McHenry Hohnen Hazel’s Vineyard cabernet sauvignon 2022

The 2022 vintage produced some quite outstanding wines out of Margaret River, and this one captures that vintage quite beautifully. It’s a wine of tremendous power, and yet it’s got a high degree of refinement and restraint. Loads of black currant, black olive notes on the nose, a little oyster shell minerality, and very subtle bay leaf. And then a palate that is so seamlessly interwoven with fine tannins, perfectly weighted oak, and that awesome fruit power that surges through to its long, sustained finish. As good an example of this wine as I’ve seen.
