The colour is an extraordinary deep, dark, reddy-black, so typical of malbec. The aromas are concentrated blackberry and plum, with some subtle blue fruit influences. There’s a lifted floral, spicy, stewed-rhubarb-like character that is quite typically varietal. The palate is the feature. It’s rich, textured and plush, with fine supporting tannins and some lovely oak. High-class wine, this.

Malbec is clearly well suited to Frankland, and this wine has been a consistent winner for Ferngrove. The nose is immediately striking with red fruits, a touch of vanilla essence and blue-fruited mulberry notes. The palate is soft and supple with a generous plumpness, yet supported by fine chalky tannins. A light cedary touch adds complexity to the finish, and the balance is impeccable. If you’re serious about malbec, this wine is a must.
