Cape Mentelle cabernet sauvignon 2023

In many ways, it was cabernet sauvignon from Cape Mentelle that put this pioneering producer on the map and indeed Margaret River. This is certainly one of the better recent vintages and one of the better examples of Cape Mentelle cabernet. It's an elegant, stylish and almost medium to full-bodied wine that reveals so much to like about Margaret River cabernet. The aromas show some nice blackcurrant fruit where there's an obvious oyster shell, chalky minerality in there and a trace of coastal bay leaf. The palate shows a tight tannin character which is holding everything in place while the oak sits comfortably, allowing the fruit to express itself. Beautifully balanced now, but everything is there to support some extended cellaring. A stylish and impressive wine.
