Penfolds CWT 521 2022

- Cabernet Sauvignon
Okay, now we know what Penfolds were doing in China. This is a cabernet sauvignon and marselan combination from Shangri-la and Ningxia. Marselan is widely grown in China and is a combination of cabernet and grenache. In this year, the percentage of marselan increased and the amount of new oak decreased. It’s a medium weight and neatly balanced wine. The aromas are all ferrous ironstone with traces of black fruits and licorice. The grainy palate shows hints of spices across the savouriness. A little dark chocolate and a lifted clarity comes through. You might start seeing a bit of this in Australia, although the volumes are quite small.
