Founded in 1844, Penfolds is one of Australia’s oldest and most iconic wineries. It’s come a long way since it was founded by Mary and Christopher Penfold, reaching its winemaking into California, Bordeaux, Champagne and China. Through the years some of the greatest names in Australian wine have been part of Penfolds, Max Schubert, creator of Grange, John Davoren, creator of St Henri and Ray Beckwith whose laboratory discoveries changed the way wine is made globally. With just a few exceptions Penfolds has a distinctive house style based on its multi-regional blending approach, and preparedness to beyond accepted boundaries with multi-country blends. While Grange remains the flagship and standard bearer each year other special bottlings and new creations emerge.
