Woody Nook Wines Single Vineyard Shiraz 2023

Captures all that is good in this wonderful vintage in Margaret River. It's predominantly sourced from the old dry-grown, low-yielding vines on the Gallagher vineyard, and it was treated carefully. After handpicking, it got 18 months in a mix of American and French oak with about 20% of that new. I think the American oak vanillin complexity has added quite a bit to this wine. It's generous with loads of spicy black fruit, slightly savoury plummy note, and just a trace of dried herbs. Palate, it's smooth, seamlessly integrated, and with that slight, gravelly, grainy savouriness, has a high degree of complexity. It certainly shows that shiraz in the right place does excel in Margaret River.
