In the winery an oxidative approach is taken after hand and machine picking. It’s pressed to barrel with full solids and then naturally fermented before malolactic fermentation on the pressings only. It spent 10 months in oak, with about 20% new barriques. It has a washed rind and sea spray character. Delicate, but it has really good intensity. The time in stainless on lees has brought the weight and power through. Grilled nuts character as well. The oak was a mix of puncheons and hogsheads for the oak treatment. Has a slightly rose petal and Turkish Delight character. Again, it’s a delicate wine. It has a textured and grainy palate feel. Whole bunch has contributed to the slightly grainy characters on the palate. The tannins are fully developed but in perfect balance. Vesey has included 50% whole bunch, which has certainly brought some texture. And it is all foot stomped. Stylistically falls somewhere between syrah and shiraz. Has a gravelly character too. And that ironstone ferrous oxide and a bright acidity really provide definition.
